Ascot Racecourse’s Jumps Season Starts With a Bang And a Bump In The Night!

On Saturday 29th October, the 2011/12 Jumps season starts with a bang as Ascot Racecourse once again hosts the United House Group Day and Firework Spectacular, but this year the Family Raceday, has a distinctly spooky feel. The feature race on the day is the £100,000 United House Gold Cup Chase over three miles.

Away from the excitement on the track there will be a host of rides on the Plaza Lawns including where you can experience the thrill of the Superbowl and the Super Star, Gasp on Oxygen or join in with the spooky Halloween theme as you wander round the House of Horrors and of course a number of fun rides for younger racegoers.

There will also be entertainment from Uncle Doom and his Organ of Gloom, Baron Von Grindle has risen from the dead and the resident Ascot Witch will all be on hand as well as some horror make-up, all of which is provided free of charge. Children are also welcome to wear fancy dress throughout the raceday.

Following racing, with toffee apples and candy floss at the ready, Ascot presents a Charity Firework Display in association with the Ascot Round Table, so wrap up warm and prepare for a spectacular show!

Amanda Sharp, a local resident said:

“We had such a great time at Ascot last year we’ve decided to come back again. The adults get to watch some exciting racing action whilst the kids have some fun on the fairground rides and to top it all off we can eat our toffee apples watching the spectacular firework display after racing”

All entertainment is free of charge and accompanied children aged 17 and under go racing for free. Adult tickets start from just £17 per person and can be purchased at www.ascot.co.uk or by calling 0870 727 1234. Generous group and advance discounts apply.

Congratulations to Jonathon Clements who was the overall winner with this quote. He has won a table for 4 to the 5th Ascot Beer Festival on Saturday 1st October plus some Ascot Tercentenary Goodies.

‘A day at Ascot Racecourse is not JUST about the horse racing. Although the action is always top class the experience is crowned by the 300 years of history, fantastic facilities, a beautiful panorama and a splash of Royalty which makes a day at Ascot the perfect venue for racing enthusiasts, thrill seekers and families alike.’
Congratulations to the following runner ups who have won a selection of Ascot tercentenary goodies:

‘There are few sporting venues that match the history and well-kept traditions as well as Ascot does. From the excitement in the stands as the bell rings for the horses turning for home to the roar of the crowd as the world’s best racehorses cross the line, nothing will get your heart racing faster.’ Joel Brown

‘Ascot epitomises all that is great about British Horse Racing - the brillance, the thrill and the unique atmosphere, all created in a natural amphitheatre by some of the finest thoroughbreds in the world duelling on Her Majesty's own hallowed turf!’ Hot To Trot Racing Club

‘Ascot to me - is a fun, glamorous, friendly occasion in magnificent surroundings. The excitement of the horses thundering down and the roar of the crowd make for a truly memorable day out. My appetite is never satisfied - I always want to come back for more!!’ Carol Phipps

‘THE BEST RACEOURSE IN THE WORLD...SIMPLES!!!’ Richard Garnett
‘I’d always dreamed of going to Ascot after reading a lot of Dick Francis books. When I finally got to go, the only thing that could have made my day better was if I’d seen the Queen. Ascot is a special place; steeped in history, home of the royals and an excellent venue for the King of Sports.’ Rebecca Chapman

'Ascot the home of Hats and Horses, Royals and Races,Champagne and Celebrations. Great Days out and Memories for life.' Twitter follower @PaddockPick

‘Ascot Racecourse is more than just a racing venue. So much more. It brings crowds of people together and injects them with a sense of fun, excitement and feelings of grandeur. With a huge choice of well built and well maintained facilities, you'll always have something to see, do and talk about.’ Craig Bell

Thank you to all those who have entered, stay tuned as we will be having further competitions throughout the year. Here’s to another 100 years!

Happy 300th Birthday Ascot Racecourse!

It was Queen Anne who first saw the potential for a racecourse at Ascot. Whilst out riding, she came upon an area of open heath, not far from Windsor Castle, that looked an ideal place for “horses to gallop at full stretch”. The first meeting on Saturday 11th August 1711 was such a success that 300 years on the racecourse has established itself as being the ultimate stage for the best racehorses in the world. There a few sporting venues that can match the rich heritage and history of Ascot.

To celebrate our 300th Birthday today we want you to write, in no more than 300 characters, what Ascot Racecourse means to you. The entry that we judge to be the best will win a table for four to the 5th Ascot Beer Festival on Saturday 1st October plus a bag of Ascot Racecourse goodies. We will also provide 7 runners up with Ascot Tercentenary goodies.

The top quotes will be put on the Ascot blog. So, get your thinking caps on and let us know what Ascot Racecourse means to you!

To enter the competition either comment on our Facebook page (Ascot Racecourse), tweet us at @AscotInsider or send us an email with your quote on to facebook@ascot.co.uk. Good Luck.
