Looking ahead to the spectacular three hour 1980s Here and Now post Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup concert on Saturday 6th August, each week we are focussing on one of the acts performing in the concert and this week is the turn of China Crisis.
Last, but by no means least, the line up of '80s legends is completed by China Crisis - a British rock band formed in 1979 in Kirby, Merseyside with a core consisting of vocalist/keyboardist Garry Daly and guitarist Eddie Lundon. Thier music was a similar style to that of the New Wave, but had strong similarities to the post-punk movement of the '80s. They became successful between 1982 and 1987 with six albums and ten hit singles including 'Christian', 'Wishful Thinking' and 'Black Man Ray'.Tickets for the Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup on Saturday 6th August, including the Here and Now concert, start from £26. The ‘Queen Anne’ roses we planted at the racecourse in March this year, produced glorious pink flowers in time for Royal Ascot week and will provide further flushes of flowers during the summer months. ‘Queen Anne’ is a classic shrub rose, with all the characteristics that have made the English Roses so popular. The medium-sized flowers are packed with many beautifully arranged, pure pink petals. There is a well-rounded Old Rose scent with delicious hints of pear drops. It will form an upright but bushy shrub rose of around 1.2 meters, and has the added benefit of very few thorns. It is healthy and easy to care for, making it an excellent choice if you are a novice gardener. ‘Queen Anne’ repeats in flushes throughout the summer and is ideal for rose beds, mixed borders, large decorative planters – as well as a racecourse!
If you would like to enjoy Ascot’s Tercentenary ‘Queen Anne’ roses in your own garden, you can place an order with the David Austin Rose team to secure your roses now. Ben a young elf and his best friend Princess Holly who is a fairy live hidden amongst thorny brambles in their Little Kingdom. Holly is learning to do magic but it always has a tendency to go wrong! Ben’s not to keen on doing magic but he is very good at making things, like toys. Gaston the Ladybird is Ben and Holly’s extra special friend. Ah, Claire! For a forty-something male such as I, Claire Grogan stirs welcome adolescent memories! It was Claire’s acting skills in a Billy Forsyth film ‘Gregory Girl’ which helped bring attention to her band, Altered Images, who went on to secure a slot as the support band to the ‘Siouxsie and the Banshees’ after sending them a demo tape. Thereafter. the group burst onto the scene with their debut single ‘Happy Birthday’ and were subsequently voted Best New Group by NME. The group had continued success with ‘I Could Be Happy’, ‘See Those Eyes’ and ‘Don’t Talk To Me About Love’.
The Fifth Ascot Festival of Food takes place in association with the Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire Local Food Group and Hampshire Fare. Racegoers are able to race and shop, purchasing locally produced items from county suppliers. Over 30 stalls will be located around the Parade Ring selling cheeses, speciality breads, cakes, ciders, real ales, pasta, preserves, flowers, game and much more. To entertain racegoers, there is also a cookery demonstration by Ascot’s leading Chefs.
Vicky Paton, Marketing Manager at Ascot Racecourse, commented: “The Festival of Food has grown over the last few years to become a recognised regional gastronomic festival and the introduction of the awards is the next step in the evolution of the event.”
